The game is up. You've no doubt heard the news - GeeDubbs can't wring enough cash out of WFB as a mass battle system, so sod it, let's go warmahordes on it, and reboot for a bit of skirmish action with top notch, collectable minatures.
The reactions to this news has been quite amusing. Some (type1 let's call them), thousands of pounds and thousands of painting hours invested, are going freakin' mental. Others are retreating to their safe place ("it's my company, right or wrong, they wouldn't screw me like that, again, so I'm sure the rumours are hyped..").
I have some advice for both types of players, starting with Type 1 - find another monoculture games company and dive in. Privateer Press maybe? It'll take a chunk of cash to get started, though. I suggest that you shift your WFB army on the EBay. No point holding onto all that stuff - it'll only hurt.
Type 2 - you are definitely right, guy. Stick to the programme - 9th Edition is a bit different, sure, with the Old World blown to pieces along with most of your characters and some of the less sexy armies (dwarfs, eh? LMFAO, right?), but the competition scene will ROCK! A whole new set of ambiguous and unwieldy rules to exploit! Awesome! Meanwhile, better shift all those redundant rank and file units - total point sink. Can I suggest firing up the old EBay sometime soon. Tbh, might be best to get ahead of the curve and sell big, sell early.
To some the radical evolution of WFB is sad, to others it is a time of hope, when scales will fall from eyes etc. Me, I'm hoping that fantasy armies are about to get really, really cheap on eBay.
